Something "New"

Ben wants to get me another car. Surprise surprise, those of you who know Ben. He likes change and has been harassing me for the past year about my car. I love my car. I don’t ever want another one, it’s great! It’s so safe, and has built-in sunshades perfect for Summit. But… it’s getting older, and BMW parts are pretty expensive so I’m looking at getting new car. Now let me clarify something here, when I say I’m getting a “new” car, that just means new to ME. It’ll probably be almost 10 years old, which is ok, my beemer is 10 years old. So what to get? Before you all shout “accord”, “civic” or “camry”, think about what would be best for ME. While my opinion is Safety First, I do also want something fuel efficient too. So a big no to a SUV, and the above mentioned models aren’t known for their safety. I wish I could afford a prius or some kind of hybrid, SOL, but I can’t. I’m thinking of a Passat Wagon. Any other suggestions?

I know buying a new car is a tough decision. I have loved having a Saturn. This is our second one and I have never felt safer. They are one of the safest cars out there and I when we had the Ion we got great gas milage. We have the relay..a mini van….now and I go about 450-500 miles per tank. I love having the room and don’t think I will ever go back to a car. But I do have both kids and 2 dogs!! Hope that his helps some.

I absolutely love my Volvo, and you can’t get much safer. Muchos aribagos are standard on every model, not to mention numerous other safety features. I get about 25MPG in the city, and about 30 on the highway — not Honda-level, but not bad. My particular ride is a 2002 S40. I don’t think I’d go older than about a 2000 model, just because they were a little fugly, but a 2000-2004 S40 is a nice buy. Of course, parts and maintenance can be a little expensive like the Beemer, but these are generally reliable cars.

I would like to say that while I do LOVE Dustin’s car, and I think that it was a great buy for us, I still miss my Mazda. I had a Mazda 3. Great get-up-and-go (so does the Volvo) and great gas mileage. Lots of extras, including the air bags that Dustin was raving about, but the maintenance is not nearly so expensive. It had the personalized sun shades, too, if you remember, but they were an option. Look into them, because most people don’t think of the Mazdas, but you can actually buy a NEW one for the price of a used Volvo or Mercedes or BMW. (Mercedes have great safety ratings, too.)

i dig a volkswagon. my mom has a passat and a jetta before that. the passat has been her favorite car of all time. i’ve wanted a 2 door golf for a while with tinted windows, bike rack etc. they’re small, but you and summit would look pretty cool rolling around in it. haven’t checked, but assume that gas mileage is pretty good. eric and lindsey may still have their vw! good luck with the hunt.

You and Summit would look great in a lime green Volkswagon Bug! Diesel gets the best gas miliage. Boy, everyone has a comment when you ask for car advice!
