Remember McGee and me? It was a Christian video series about this kid, Nick, and his animated friend McGee. Lizzy McGuire totally ripped that idea!! McGee had crazy hair, his bangs were a cross b/t Ariel and There’s Something About Mary. Anywho, Nick always was getting into scrapes and McGee, his animated conscience, was there to help him out, often with the help of a quick animated scene from the bible. One of more memorable episodes was one where Nick was taking credit for something he didn’t do and all the kids though he was “cool”. McGee reminded him of the passage in the bible where it talks of a Wedding Feast, where those who try to sit by the master of the house are asked to go to the other end where no one important sat. Then, after McGee walked in humiliation to the dark, scary end of the table with spiderwebs (of course), the master of the house suddenly came after him and put him in the place of honor.
All that to say, I may blog bravely, but I’m still a mess! I’ve gotten encouraging e-mails and phone calls, and I appreciate it so much but you need to know every day I’m lacking in Faith. I don’t see myself at all as an example of someone of faith. I doubt God’s good nature every day. I wanted to be transparent b/c I don’t want to be putting myself out there and running to the front of the table like I deserve it. Derek Webb’s song Wedding Dress, (although not written about this in particuar,) has a line about that says “I do confess, I put you on like a wedding dress and I run down the aisle” I don’t want to be that.
So I hope you have seen McGee and Me, if not, apparantly it’s a good tool to share the bible with your kids b/c now 20 years later I still remember it! Maybe later I’ll write a blog with Psalty the singing Songbook.
