Yeah, that’s me and Bear on the local news! OK, not really, but we were on the set of 40/29 local news watching it be made yesterday! Exciting! The short version of the story is that Bear and I were asked to come visit the studio and take a tour- we had a blast!
Remember when I said we got rid of cable? Yeah, we have an antenna that gets one channel so my “no tv” watching turned into obsessively watching that one channel and thus- local news! Kind of a fail- but it turned into a win! I “met” Angela Taylor, the local news anchor, on Twitter, she started to read my blog and we chatted as I watched her news programs every day. Then, by chatting all the time I started to also talk with the sports guy, Mike Jacques, or “Jocko”. We would chat and joke frequently until I annoyed them into inviting me up there.. JUST KIDDING!
I’ve always been interested in how news is made and produced so getting a behind-the-scenes view of it was SO interesting. When I walked in, Angela and I ran up and hugged each other- I felt like I was seeing an old friend that I hadn’t seen in awhile and felt the same way about Jocko! Then, they prepared for the news that was starting in the next 15 minutes. I watched Jocko finish up a story and edit the video for the news, saw the various equipment I could never remember what it was or did, walked around the studio, and met Craig Cannon who I’d been watching on news since I was in jr. High!
I had a BLAST watching the news being made! It was so surreal! It would have been a little more enjoyable but my dear child, Bear, decided to be loud occasionally and I was stressed that he’d start shouting in the middle of the live broadcast and he’d ruin it and we’d be escorted out in shame and asked never to appear on the premises ever again… After the fact, Angela laughed at me for being so worried and said it wouldn’t have been a big deal if he had. I have to say making the news was so much more chill and laid back than I had imagined it to be. I mean, clearly they were having a good time but I figured it was a high stress job or something and it isn’t! They are really just having fun! Watching them working made me appreciate all the hard work that they do making the news every night, the behind the scene prep work is done so well that they recording itself is pretty seamless.
and of course here is Bear and I at the anchor desk…
Thank you so much Angela and Jocko and 40/29 news for having us! You are amazing- not only was it an awesome experience but meeting you guys was even better!
