Me: Hey Ben, I want you to hear this song, I LOVE it, it’s meant a lot to me and really captures how I feel-
Ben: (polite face)
Me: (trying to squeeze all the set-up dialogue before the musician starts to sing) -right now on a deeply emotional basis. In fact, if I were to, say, have a theme song, this one would be it. It’s seldom that I enjoy a song after just hearing it 1 time and not only do I enjoy the way it sounds musically but-
Ben: (Looking less polite)
Me: -lyrically as well. OK, I’m going to play it now. Really, like, listen to it. There is such depth of meaning here…
Ben: (annoyed face) Shhhhhhhh and just let me hear the song without all your dialogue.
Me: (quieter) OK, but listen to this line.…. (look meaningfully at Ben hoping for some facial expression that shows that he “get’s” it.) …. <helpfully> did you get that, Ben? Did you hear the anguish-
Ben: OHMYGOODNESS Shut up and let me listen to this song already!
Me: (quiet for about 8 seconds) OH, and this line here… (meaningfully look at Ben again)
Ben: UGHHHHHH HEIDI shhhhhhhhhh!
Me: (non verbally bouncing up and down slightly on the bed in excitement with my mouth clamped shut)
Ben: (rolls eyes)
…Last line of the song…
Me: So, SO WHAT did you think? Did you-
Ben: Mehhhhh. it was ok. But listen to THIS song that means a lot to me….
Me: (polite face)
