It’s 30 Days of Real this month on my blog. If you want to read more about what that means to me, read my blog post back on Sunday –> HERE. My goal was to try to post every day, but in reality that means every other day or every third day. Just keeping it real already on here…
So, we are all guilty of trying to appear a bit more… together than we actually are so again, this month is about celebrating the real moments that we all have.
Day 4: Confession: we didn’t actually carve our pumpkins until last night.
The kids have been asking for days but it just didn’t happen because of traveling before Halloween and then on Halloween night we were busy trick or treating and entraining some guests. SO, based in part on a set of pumping carving tools Ben got in the clearance section at Walmart {and our guilt that we were terrible parents}, we told the excited boys we would finally carve their pumpkins.
Their excitement rivaled Christmas morning! They esthetically poured through the different options to pick a template. {Pumpkin carving has gotten fancy and there are template options that you wet and they stick to the pumpkin so you basically trace a design with your fancy carving knife.}
They were getting along, giddy and jumping up and down…
That is… until…
I decided that they needed to learn the fine art of cleaning out the inside of a pumpkin with me. They were sooooo in to me doing all the work, and I felt they were old enough to help out. Just a little bit.
They were extremely cautious and a little disgruntled that I made them touch the inside of a pumpkin. At first they were wide eyed and interested but after a few handfuls of the slimy innards..
GAGGING. DRY HEAVING.
finally, FOR REAL, a little vomit came out and I made them stop so they wouldn’t throw up everywhere! I mean. Really??
So, we sat them back and Ben and I finished it out and let them take a bath in the dark with the Jack’o Lantern on the counter.
