So, after staying up late Friday evening watching movies and hanging out with the kids and some friends, my dad calls Saturday morning to let me know that he and my BIL are going to cut wood. I inform him that I will get the kids up and around and that we will join them in about an hour. FIFTEEN minutes later, my dad is in my backyard attempting to burn the garden so we can get it tilled up and start planting…I am rushing around trying to get breakfast finished (bacon and biscuits for the kids and an egg muffin for myself.) I holler at the kids to get up eat and get outside as I rush out the door with my muffin and a cup of coffee whilst slipping on a jacket.
Because it was too ‘green’ we couldn’t get it to burn very well, so we decided to move right on to the tilling of the garden…
Thankfully it started right up after sitting all winter. We were ready to till! After a little drama regarding forward or reverse of the tiller, we finally got underway.
tilling (this is a video, but I haven’t figured out how to do it properly, apologies)
Shortly after I took the video, I decided to ‘help’ which resulted in my dad screaming “let go, LET GO” and the tiller running into the chain link fence that surrounds the garden. (Incidentally, my BIL was there to see that and got a HUGE kick out of it.) Luckily, no harm was done to anything or anyone.
At this point, we loaded up the pick up and the “Gator” and headed into the woods.
Dad started us out with a short prayer (which is ALWAYS a good idea when you are headed into the woods with my dad, BIL and chainsaws), then instructions, and we were off!
We had a ton of trees that were down, it was just a matter of getting to them and getting the wood back to the ‘road’.
Notice that the flannel jacket from earlier was removed, but still left him with a very nice blue jacket to ward off the wind.
This fashion was not thought out properly at all…due to the fact that were were walking THROUGH the woods, these poor beautiful girls ended up with all sorts of scrapes and cuts on their legs. They are stylin’ though!
As we cut the wood, it is hauled up to the road and either put into the truck, or laid aside for one of the boys to split. (As Nate was doing in the previous photo.)
Now, here i my fashion for the woods: (keep in mind I got ready in about 5 min.)
Here I am stlyin’ with black capri sweat pants, soccer socks with brilliant blue stripes, and my amazing work boots from Country Outfitters! As you can see, I am also wearing my All Star Shirt that I won at a Naturals game last week, as well as a light jacket in case of a chill. I am ashamed to say that I left the house without my gloves, and a woman should never be caught without her gloves. What you can’t see is that I am covered in sawdust from the chainsaw due to the fact that I stayed too close while they were cutting. The great thing about this look was that since we worked up until the time we needed to leave for Madison’s softball practice, the only thing I needed to do before heading to town was throw on a ball cap, some earrings and mascara…I was good to go! 😉
Needless to say, I doubt you will be taking much fashion advice from me. I am watching the Fashion Series close though, because it is no secret that I could use some help in this area!
It was a VERY productive day!
